“Rīgas satiksme” calls on passengers to hold on hand rails in public transport

Results of an opinion poll carried out on the website of “Rīgas satiksme” in October show that passengers usually hold on hand rails and seats when in public transport, thus taking care of their safety during the trip if the driver has to jam on the brakes.

A majority of the respondents (90%) point out that they hold to seats and hand rails in public transport for safety reasons. 5% say they do not hold on as they do not feel such a need, and the remaining 5% don’t hold on in public transport vehicles as they always sit.  1245 respondents participated in the survey.

For safety reasons, all public transport vehicles are equipped with hand rails for passengers to hold on when the vehicle is moving. Urban road traffic is unpredictable, and sometimes drivers have to brake hard, so it’s important for passengers to hold on to avoid falling and pushing other passengers. “Rīgas satiksme” calls on passengers to start holding on just after they get on a public transport, and passengers who sit can also held on seat backs.
